ONE COMMUNITY AT A TIME

The Discovery

One summer evening in 2022, as Henry Agor prepared to travel to Ghana loaded with supplies and gifts for his community, we talked about the contradiction of poverty against the wealth of our lands. The lush forests, rolling green hills, blue oceans, and the ingenuity of our people and still grinding poverty.

How could we do our part to change the narrative? We started talking to others. Do you have land? Can we use our lands for offset and renewable energy projects to create new wealth? Could we do it in a nature positive way? Would people in the communities be at the core?

Gradually, the conversation was joined by green economy experts, financiers, chiefs, and community leaders. It was clear, we had one common purpose to drive inclusive African-led, green economic growth through carbon offsets and renewable energy. These conversations sparked Langu.

Langu speaks to the ambitions of our people. Langu is the Krobo (Ghanaian language) word for Cowry. In the past Cowry was used as a form of currency across many African nations. Langu was highly treasured amongst our ancestors as a symbol of wealth. Carbon offsets and renewable projects and their tradeable credits are the new currency. If cultivated, the people who inhabit these lands can build sustainable wealth.
